– Female, come from an immigrant family, Asian, I'm gay. I have a lot of, I
think sensitivity toward Just a lot of diverse perspectives. I'm Jen Wong. I'm the COO of Reddit and
I lead our business growth. I'd say when I was
younger, I was an introvert And it probably wouldn't have been obvious That I would be in a leadership role Working with people every day. But it's something that
I think I've discovered As I started operating
that I really, really loved And it turns out that it's one
of the most gratifying things I continue to do. I think in some ways
having grown up introverted Helps me have a lot of empathy For different kinds of people
and how people interact. So I'm always aware Of folks that enjoy talking And sharing maybe half-baked ideas And folks that don't, right, in a room, And you want the best of all that. I think in my life, I've
spent a lot of time bridging. That started for me personally, Bridging maybe what I
perceived as differences Between me and the average
person or coworker or peer. And now, I think I spend time Helping bridge across
lots of different people On all my teams. So I think I have just some
experience and appreciation For diversity and leading
teams that are really diverse. You learn a lot about people Because you have a lot of
them in your life every day. There are people who
they're very career-oriented
And they're go-getters, And there are people who are
like my family is a priority At this moment and not work. They still do good work,
still really valuable. And so I just, I have a deep respect For all different motivations And that they all are really valid. And I think that's really important 'cause that helps support the people Who are on your teams to
live a very fulsome sort of Life in terms of the
balance that they want. The more that people are open And able to share where
they're coming from And what's important to them In a certain moment in their life, I think the more everybody
gets out of the experience And the ability to be supported. The optimist in me,
always is at the forefront When it comes to my biggest challenges. I'm always feeling like, okay, There's a way through this. We can do this. (upbeat music)
