We hope that workers Across America see What's happening here in New York and la And around the country and take heart This is a republican issue this is a Democratic issue this is liberal this is Conservative everybody needs to be paid To survive in this country and that's What we're fighting for it's not just About writers it's about every worker in America [Music] I'm AJ Hess here with fast news would You mind introducing yourself Patrick Coker strike captain for the wga Writers Guild of America and why are you here Today Patrick well we're striking for Fair wages they're trying to take our Jobs and turn them into a gig economy Job which means that they pay us as Little as possible we get no benefits And we're not going to stand for that Because everything all this content that They use to make their money with it Starts with the word and we're the ones That put the words on paper Seem to be that the Studios have a Little bit of a double talk going on on The one hand they're telling Shareholders that profits are at All-time high that they have a great Year ahead of them and they're also Telling Riders they don't have the money To meet this contract what do you make Of that yeah funny isn't it yeah studios
Are extremely practiced at playing a Shell game with their profits they've Done it with screenwriters and TV Writers for years where they tell us Okay on the back end of this television Show or movie you will make some points But suddenly there are no profits at the Back end so nobody gets any of that Money and yet they're CEOs and their Executives are bringing home huge sacks Of cash so something's not right here Writers wages have dropped in a time of Peak television that's a shocking thing To have to admit and Studios know that The one product they sell is created by Us they cannot do it without us and yet They refuse to pay us a fair wage and we Don't think that's right AI is an issue that's impacting workers Across Industries what would be your Words of advice to those workers uh if You've got a union and you're in touch With other unions start coordinating now Because they already have the Programming they already have the Systems in place that they want they Just they're just waiting for the moment To launch it all and This they want to crush us so I would Say like start start organizing right Now for something that maybe it takes an Extra six months maybe it's another year Before it starts impacting you but it's Going to impact you so stand with us now
